The Pirate’s Cookbook

Believe it or not, out of necessity, pirates were wonderfully creative cooks!  They finally land on an island, and starved!, would assess the available meats, fruits, and vegetation, and create culinary concoctions such as Salmagundi Stew for their Saturnalia feasts!  Did you know that pirates invented barbecue?  That’s even how they got the name of buccaneers—cookers of meat!  Chef Blackbeard made a mean gunpowder punch!  A book of history, trivia, legend, lore and some great recipes.  Fun for the family, or a festive theme for a dinner party!

For many years, I lived in Bath, North Carolina, former home and haunt of Blackbeard, known as “The Fiercest Pirate of Them All!”  This is where I first began my research of pirate cooking and recipes.  And, as you’ll learn in my book, it’s no surprise that Eastern North Carolina is the “pig-picking” capital of the world!  I hope you enjoy this book!  PS:  Boys love to do pirate cooking, and this is a fun classroom activity, as well.—CM

“Who knew?  What’s fun about this book is that just like the pirates, you can adapt recipes to suit your family or the ingredients you love or have available.” -- CLM
